Being that the title used to be: How Cubans Start Dancing, people kept commenting that the baby is actually Brazilian. It’s been a crazy few weeks/month since I placed my offer on the house trying to get all affairs up here in NY in order as well as get everything taken care of for the new house. As of uploading at 11:07pm EST on Tuesday August 18th 2009 I’m just about finished packing, just the kitchen, computers, and essential bathroom/bedroom stuff really left. Tomorrow morning I pick up the truck and I’ll also finish packing the rest of the items. Tonight will be the last night I sleep in my room in my bed before it goes on the truck! Friday I close & move into the new place! Excited!
Stace McGee was kind enough to give me a tour of his Monte Visa neighborhood home. He and his wife purchased the house when it had only one story. The couple designed a second story addition, and in so doing, used green concepts. This was somewhat easy for McGee, who founded a sustainable design and consulting firm in Albuquerque. However, he insists that all of the choices he and his wife have made — from well-planned indoor/outdoor space, windows that don’t leak energy to the type of covering on the floors — are ones that every family can make. He says everyone has access to these products and processes. I particularly appreciated his priority for infilling — choosing to renovate in an existing neighborhood instead of building from scratch in a sprawling area.
